So for now I just run MB, then launch D3, alt-tab to stop MB then alt-tab back to D3. So, maybe MusicBee is just keeping the CPU a little busy and Dirt3 can tell a difference, or it's just that the audio device is busy. Exit D3, stop MusicBee, Launch D3 - Crash. What, wait what is different? Oh I left my music player running (MusicBee). So while I pondered this, I thought I'd give it another try. I don't really want to slow my CPU just to play this game. Interesting as I do OC my i7 950 to 3.85Ghz (native is 3.0 I think) Still crashing after first logo.Īlmost gave up, but did some more googling and saw an old thread from 2011 about how it could be sensistive to overclocking of CPU's. So I did a complete uninstall, cleaned the registry, re-installed, installed OpenAL, edited the config to force DX9. Over the last 2 days I have only been able to start without the crash about 4 times. Well, the problem has returned, so I spoke too soon. It's a shame these issues have spoilt it a bit. Ps: A big thanks for the free DLC and a great game. Now I'm off to slide that Cooper S around Monte Carlo!!! :-)
#DIRT 3 PLAZA PATCH#
Not sure how you are going to patch that? So, for the devs it does appear to be old version uninstalls not cleaning up properly, causing the issue. I'm guessing but I probably deleted 20 or so keys. There were lots so I can't recall them all.
#DIRT 3 PLAZA INSTALL#
(long hex number)įor old install paths that I simply deleted. I found keys in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\xxxxxxxx. So for those still having the crash on start try doing a search in regedit for "Dirt 3" I had traces of at least 3 different installs still in the registry. It appears that Dirt 3 is not good at cleaning up after itself. With and without GFWL and then the GFWL steam version.
#DIRT 3 PLAZA PC#
I have a long history with Dirt 3 since it came out on this PC and I had various installs of it over the years. None of thesse worked, it would still crash right after the Dirt3 logo, or sometimes 1 or 2 secs into the red Gaming Evolved video. Startup switches "-nosound" and "-safemode"
#DIRT 3 PLAZA SOFTWARE#
Rapture 3D uninstall\re-install and 2 versionsĮditing hardware config to force DX9, software audio etc etc. OpenAL uninstall/reinstall and various versions I had exhausted all other options so I decided to go looking in the registry. Looking forward to running through the whole campaign again with the DLC to get 100% completion. Hope the devs get it sorted soon because I had a taste and it was awesome! (Cooper S mini on Monte Carlo rally!) I have tried everything suggested here in the forums. And this time I just can't get rid of it. But after closing the game, then running another game for a while (Ori), the error is back. That got me running so I thought that was that. Strange thing is I did get it running for about 2 hrs earlier today, and it was running fantastic.Īfter seeing the problem on first launch, I uninstalled OpenAL and installed a later version. Ironically it was still working, until I decided to uninstall it in desperation, hoping it might fix this version. I did have the GFWL version installed before installing this Complete Edition. Have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to task manager to close the error dialog. I have very similar error as Skookum above, but the offending dll is always MMDevApi.dll not MSVCR80.dll.Īfter launch I see the Dirt 3 logo in centre of a black screen, then a flash (white error box) and after 5sec I see the white mouse pointer in centre of screen. Well this is one of the strangest game problems I have seen.
